This is the second post. The first was lost and this is a poor attempt at replication so I'll get to the point. Most people have a tendency to choose the wod/exercise that accomodates their strengths and avoids exploiting their weaknesses. I know this is normal and has some roots in our evolutionary past. Can you imagaine (as a caveman) choosing to fight a woolly mammoth when spearing a squirrel will do? It doesn't make survival sense. Since we no longer have to hunt our food but still have to feed our self-esteem we still take the path of least resistance. After all, who wants leave the gym with a bruised ego? It goes against human nature to abandon and ignore the most powerful instinct, i.e. self preservation. We realize this and award such behavior, usually found on the battlefield, with high honors. What does this have to do with crossfit? The point of coming to the gym is to train. We all want to perform but to perform we have to train and that means addressing and exploiting our weaknesses. Essentially, I am asking you to say no to self-preservation. Most people chose their strengths out of the three options but we are going to do this for the next three sundays so that everyone has the opportunity to do every exercise. If you look at meghans dbl under score compared to everyone else you will notice a significant difference. The difference, however, came more from form and technique than a superior level of fitness (although she is a superior superduper heroine). This was our fault for allowing people to choose that exercise without running a quick clinic. Double under technique is pretty black and white. The donkey kick technique while mixing singles and doubles will only take you so far. To post big numbers you need to use correct form. We will hold a clinic next sunday in order to ensure that everyone has the tools to focus their effort on excelling and not just surviving.
