HUNDREDS

ARE YOU BOUGHT IN?
Posted by TG

Remember this:

"The strength of the team is each individual member...the strength of each member is the team".
Phil Jackson - Coaching the Chicago Bulls

So, what is a team? What is "bought in"? Let’s look at what a team is first. If you look it up you will find something along the lines of "a group of people linked in a common goal or purpose". I agree with this, but I also know that there is much more to a team than just sharing in a common goal. This is where the "bought in" motto comes in. Being on a team means that you not only share in a common goal, but you are "bought in" 100% to that goal. There is no deviation from the team goal, you are willing to make any necessary sacrifices for that goal, and you are supportive of your teammates in accomplishment of that goal.

"Buying in" or "bought in" is something that has been taught to me since I was a part of my very first team in 2nd grade. For those of you reading this that do not know me, I played football for the majority of my life - from  2nd grade pee-wee through D1 college football. No matter who my coach was they all preached the same thing to the team: "You guys have to buy in". What they meant was for us to all understand what we were being asked to do and the commitment that we were being asked to make. When you are "bought in" to the team's goal you do what you are suppose to do when you are suppose to do it. It’s not about doing your own thing. You are willing to do whatever it takes to help the team accomplish that goal. That “whatever” might not benefit you that moment, but will ultimately help the team. Vince Lombardi said, "It's the individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work".

  1. Today's WOD sounds like a Man-Maker for sure! I'll be honest, I'm excited but nervous at the same time. 100 reps at 155# is pretty excessive, but I welcome the challenge!

  2. And Tanner, I'm Bought In! Your post is a good reminder to all of us to keep our priorities in order. It is a privilege to be a member of the team at CFJAX, and we must always remember to put the team before our own personal ambitions. The team is far greater as a whole than any of it's individual members on their own!
